The esophagus is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. An esophageal cyst is a duplication of the esophagus usually involving the last third of the esophagus. The cysts can compress surrounding structures causing difficulties swallowing, problems breathing, or heart arrhythmias. This disorder is rare and many patients do not have any symptoms.
