Subconjunctival hemorrhage (blood covering white part of the eye)

Blood that collects beneath the covering of the white part of the eye (sclera). This covering is called the conjunctiva and the disorder occurs when a small blood vessel in the conjunctiva breaks and bleeds. It can occur with or without injury, and can occur after a forceful sneeze or cough. There are few symptoms and many times the blood is noticed in the morning or by someone besides the patient. The disorder occurs more often in people who are taking blood thinners or who have a condition that makes it harder for their blood to clot.
