Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

The conjunctiva is a thin, transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye and eyelids. Conjunctivitis can occur from infection, inflammation or allergies. Infections can result from virus or bacteria although viral causes are more common. Infectious conjunctivitis occurs more commonly in children and can be highly contagious. It is mainly spread through direct contact with infected tears, eye discharge, respiratory droplets, or contaminated objects.
