A disorder characterized by persistent exaggerated worry and tension without any clearly identifiable reason. There is a sense of fear or apprehension accompanied by some or all of the following signs: muscle tension, restlessness, palpitations, rapid breathing, jitteriness, suspicion, confusion, decreased concentration, or fear of losing control. The exact cause of this disorder is not known but it is likely related to both genetic and environmental factors.
