Arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm)

An abnormal heart rhythm occurs when the electrical impulses traveling through the heart cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly. Often, an arrhythmia is seen on an electrocardiogram (ECG) even when the person has no symptoms. But it can also be very serious, causing the person to pass out or even die.
